We will be discussing the biography written by journalist David Von Drehle:
The Book of Charlie: Wisdom from the Remarkable American Life of a 109-Year-Old Man (2023)
Called the inspiring story of one man’s journey through a century of upheaval, the author relates how Chalie mastered survival strategies and kept a lively sense of adventure. He took an epic journey through the Jazz Age, raced aboard ambulances through Depression-era gangster wars, improvised techniques for early open-heart surgery, and cruised the Amazon as a guest of Peru’s president.
We will meet in Founders Hall on Monday, January 8th at 6:30pm.
