As you are doubtless aware, there will be a vote on whether UUFSD becomes a signatory to the Apartheid-Free Pledge at the Congregational meeting on January 18. Any interested voting members are invited to make a signed personal statement of their position on the Pledge by December 31; specify either For, Abstain, or Against, along with your concise reasons. Send it to heather@uufsd.org and office@uufsd.org for compilation. The compiled statements will be sent in an email blast to the congregation on Monday, January 5, in time for consideration before the vote. Here is the Pledge for reference:
We Affirm our commitment to freedom, justice, and equality for the Palestinian people and all people;
We Oppose all forms of racism, bigotry, discrimination, and oppression; and
We Declare ourselves an apartheid-free community, and to that end,
We Pledge to join others in working to end all support to Israel’s apartheid regime, settler colonialism, and military occupation.
